Student Employment

Students in the MA Film & Media Studies program have several options for paid employment.

1. Incoming and continuing MA Film & Media Studies students can apply for Teaching Assistant positions during the spring semester prior to the next academic year.  The application process is managed in the SOA Student Employment system.  Teaching assistants assist Film & Media Studies faculty in the instruction of undergraduate students by leading discussion groups independently to reinforce and elaborate the content of faculty lectures.  Compensation for these positions is currently $4300 tuition credit and $2116 stipend, for a total of $6416 in earnings.

2. Incoming and continuing MA Film & Media Studies students can apply for service positions in the School of the Arts through the SOA Student Employment system.  There are a wide variety of positions requiring diverse skills which pay $20 - $25 per hour.  These positions are open to all full time MA Film & Media Studies students, regardless of citizenship status.

3. US citizens and permanent residents who are work-study eligible per the FAFSA information submitted to the Financial Aid office can seek work-study jobs in the MA Film & Media Studies program and throughout the university.  Inquiries regarding MA Film & Media Studies work study jobs should be directed to the Assistant Director of Academic Administration.  The Columbia University work study listings can be found here:  https://www.sfs.columbia.edu/content/work-study-overview
